The Sustainable Food Systems -Wheat Value Chin project covered several districts in Balkh Province, the wheat value chain projects are implemented based on line government department (DAIL) strategy work plan and based on cooperative farmers prioritisation and baseline survey needs.
The Wheat Value Chain Project particularly focuses on introducing the new wheat cultivation methods and introducing the improved wheat seed, enhancing agricultural market access with a particular focus upon post-harvest handling and quality control and assurance in the wheat value chain.
The wheat value chain project initiative aims at increasing wheat production of small land holder’s farmer cooperatives through provision of agricultural inputs, improved irrigation system through construction of irrigation canal.
Through this project, small land holder households, as well as marginal and vulnerable population groups participates in the community infrastructure support initiatives, as well as training and input supply programmes. The activities help to re-build community assets and livelihoods in the targeted communities that are running with limited working opportunities.
