Asset creation and livelihood projects are implemented to contributes in providing seasonally appropriate and livelihood specific inputs to increase the productive capacity of rural livelihoods in the targeted locations, through the support of WFP. The mentioned activities are considered as an investment in the construction of rural livelihood assets to prevent further deterioration and restoring households and community productive assets.
Responding to the identified constraints and problem areas in the selected provinces or districts, the implemented action focused on an immediate result on the targeted communities’ food security as well as contributing to longer-term sustainable development through strengthening the agriculture production, Natural Resource Management as well as Disaster Risk Reduction measures.
MAAO have contributed on construction of irrigation canal, retaining walls, rehabilitation of irrigation canals, reforestations to support the most marginalized, disaster-prone, and food-insecure communities in Balkh, Jawzjan, Sar-e-Pul and Faryab Provinces, in the targeted districts. The targeted communities, villagers and farmers were facing serious problems in recent years. Where past reliance on monoculture and cash crops has brought about economic threats, increased dependency, and severe ecological problems.
The effects of climate change and the unpredictable weather changes have further struck the farmers hard as their resilience is low, in most part of the targeted districts agriculture harvest was low. Low Agriculture productivities especially wheat production and flash flood hamper the communities.
